Why Eating Local

Is Important?

Eating locally first means choosing food that is grown and harvested close to where you live, and then distributed over shorter distances than is usually the case.

Here’s is why eating local is important

1. Food is tastier and healthier : Local produce is harvested at the peak of the nutrition making the food tastier and healthier.

2. It reduces carbon footprint: As it’s grown just a few miles away from your place of consumption, lesser fossil fuels and resources are used for manpower, handling and tranposration which reduces the carbon footprint drastically making it good for the environment.

3. Good for economy: Local farming and distribution creates more jobs in the region and brings a better flow of money locally.

4. It’s safer than imported produce: As there are lesser steps between the food source and the consumption table, the chances of contaimination are less, making it safer to eat.

5. It builds a community: Knowing the farm and the farmer creates a more sense of belonging and responsibility in the community.
