Why UAE needs more local produce?

In the past, the UAE had an “import only” culture.

UAE had been importing more than 90% of the food and vegetables since many years. In 2020, Covid changed the way UAE thinks of its agriculture as not only there was scarcity of some produce in the region but the prices went alarmingly high due to the pandemic.

 National Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture was formed in June 2020 by the UAE cabinet to increase self-sufficiency in agriculture and achieve other sustainable farming goals.

Recently, there has been a mojor shift in UAE agriculture towards modern farming systems to replace the traditional techniques to reduce water consumption. and increase efficiency.

With more than 50 organic vegetation farms, UAE aims to support sustainable agriculture to boost sustainable food production in the region.
